Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno (CAAM) invited Zak Ové to stage a major survey of his practice. The exhibition traced his trajectory from early photographic works documenting the vibrancy of multicultural London, through his engagement with Trinidadian carnival communities and traditions — a pivotal influence that shaped his shift into object-making and reflects the Carnival culture linking the Canarian archipelago to Africa and the wider Caribbean. It also acknowledged the legacy of his father, filmmaker Horace Ové, whose groundbreaking vision informed Zak’s own perspective and was later honoured in the landmark exhibition Get Up, Stand Up Now, which Zak curated. The presentation brought together celebrated large-scale sculptures such as the acclaimed Invisible Men series, alongside new directions in textiles and abstraction.
